Week One - Where in the world are we?

We did what????!!!!!!!!!   2,297 kilometers in one week!!!   Oh yes we did!


 How amazing is that?   We decided to stop in Stockton Manitoba to blog about our first week of our journey.     



This abandoned church in Stockton, built in 1891, seems like a perfect space for us to roll out bedrolls and reflect on the week behind us.

Hope Floats crew member Brenda and supporter Gerry.   Brenda gazes across Lake Erie in Crystal Beach wondering if our American crew mates happen to be gazing toward Canada at the same time.  


Brenda croaches between the shores of Lake Erie and the old Palmwood Hotel/Restaurant.   The Palmwood is poised to be torn down and replaced with a condominium complex.   A favourite watering hole of many, the Palmwood will be missed. 

 
Supporter Eleanor Neilson took this shot from an art installation under one of the  ridges along the Don Trail between pottery road and where the trail meets the underpass of the Don Valley Parkway.

Supporters and Dragon Boaters from our Paddles UP Unlimited crew, Bella and Pina took to the The Twelve Side Trail in St. Catharines, on the opposite side of the 12 mile creek where Roxy faced the mighty deer!

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”                   Lao Tzu Nine years ago today, I entered NGGH with my daughter to have my breast cancer surgery. Just 11 months after the death of my husband, I was on a true journey into the unknown. After my surgery, and 27 days of radiation, I began a new journey alone. I got on a plane and flew to Panama. I packed my tube of third degree burn cream and a stack of white men’s Stansfield tee shirt. I walked the beaches and followed the route  the Panama Canal to its source. After the first journey, I have travelled thousands of miles alone. November 1st, I began yet another journey. This time I am walking to Vancouver with friends. Although, I am walking by myself, I am not alone. Friends and family will walk beside me with faith and support. This is a new journey! This is an adventure!
